Existing comment: Battle Flags of Glendale

During the Civil War, flags were used for multiple purposes. On the battleship they helped identify units and served as rallying points in times of confusion. Some regiments carried both a national flag and one specific to their own organization. Often a regiment sewed on the names of its previous engagements, called battle honors, to help commemorate a proud record of accomplishment. The men who fought here on June 30 remembered the battle by many different names: Glendale, Frayser's Farm, Charles City Crossroads, Nelson's Farm, and White Oak Swamp, among others.
