Home At Last! Ike and Mamie Return to Gettysburg, January 21, 1961:
The Eisenhowers lived briefly in Gettysburg in 1918 when Ike commanded Camp Colt, the home of the US Army Tank Corps, and they had font memories of those early years. Following World War II, they bought a farm at the south end of the Battlefield, but Ike's two terms as president delayed his retirement. Upon leaving the White House, the Eisenhowers arrived to a warm welcome at the Hotel Gettysburg. |
