Gettysburg in 1863:
View from Oak Ridge (just west of town) with Chambersburg Pike on the right. This is the view the Confedereates had of Gettysburg when they arrived along the pike on June 26. In left foreground is Carrie Shead's Oak Ridge Female Academy where members of the 97th NY regiment surrendered on the afternoon of July 1, 1863. The Academy was then converted to a hospital. Today the building is 331 Buford Avenue. |
