Local artist Dale Gallon depicts the panic among citizens created by the arrival of Confederate forces in the [sic] Gettysburg. During their overnight stay, they liberally patronized local stores paying with Confederate money. They burned some railroad freight cars but generally refrained from harassing citizens. Henry Jacobs recalled: "Those Confederates were very business-like... toward the townspeople, but were considerate enough."
