Existing comment: McAllister's Grist Mill, an underground Railroad Station:
James McAllister's mill was located along Rock Creek two miles southeast of Gettysburg. McAllister was a strong opponent of slavery and it is thought he used his mill to hide fugitive slaves on their flight north to freedom. Others in Gettysburg, including some members of the African-American AME church and President of the Lutheran Seminary. Rev. Samuel S. Schmucker, are also believed to have helped fugitive slaves.
