The work that they're doing is doing a seismic retrofit of the bridge. The Golden Gate Bridge is vulnerable to damage resulting from a strong nearby earthquake. Seismic retrofit construction is underway to transform this international icon into a modern structure that can withstand such forces. The dramatic steel arch over Fort Point National Historic Site is being retrofitted as is the south end of the span. During the retrofit, Fort Point is closed from Monday through Thursday. |
