Union Major General Don Carlos Buell, commander of the Army of the Ohio, accepted Nashville's surrender in February 1862. After winning the indecisive battle against the Army of Tennessee at Perryville, Kentucky, in early October, he was relieve of command after failing to follow up his victory. He resigned from the Union army in 1864. |
