Since its founding, Clarksville's location on the Cumberland River and Red River made it an important and prosperous commercial crossroad. After the Civil War, it was once again an attractive place to set roots... but now for a variety of new citizens -- former soldiers, both Union and Confederate, newly freed slaves, and others hoping to start a new life -- planting the seeds of today's diverse, vibrant city. |
