Existing comment: Jesse Woodson James
September 5, 1847 - April 3, 1882

Born to Kentucky parents, the notorious Confederate guerilla and outlaw was raised in Missouri during a period of violent conflicts over slavery. As a member of Quantrill's Raiders, he and his brother Frank terrorized the Union Army and its supporters for years. After the war, the James Gang robbed banks, trains, and stagecoaches throughout the Midwest -- including the Kentucky towns of Russellville, Columbia, and Mammoth Cave. Pursued for years, Jesse met his end when he was killed in his own home by a fellow outlaw who had turned against him for a reward.
