Jesse Reno was decorated in the Mexican War. A Union commander during the Civil War, he is said to have approached Barbara Fritchie in Frederick and ask to purchase the flag that she had waved at Stonewall Jackson. Apparently, Fritchie had not even seen Jackson but gave Reno some homemade bunting. On September 14 1862, Reno's IX Corps tried to take Fox's Gap and he was killed. |
