Existing comment: In 2002, ten months after the 9/11 attacks, the area near Shanksville, Pennsylvania by the site of the crashed Flight 93 was a make-shift memorial. The crash site itself stayed an active crash investigation site and the new National Park Service memorial opened in 2015. The exact area of the crash is still closed off to the public although rangers will take family members out to it.
