Existing comment: The Black Boxes:
The "black boxes" record and store valuable information about a flight. The cockpit voice recorder captures sounds in the cockpit, and the flight data recorder preserves technical information about the flight. They are painted orange to aid in recovery.
These photographs show both instruments as they are recovered from the crater on September 13 and 14, 2001. Flight 93's black boxes prove critical to the investigation of the September 11 attacks since no boxes are recovered at the World Trade Center, and at the Pentagon, only the flight data recorder yields information.
