A strong alcoholic, unsweetened, drink, the tradition of Albania. A similar in kind and sometimes in name it is also popular in all the Balkan countries. It is similar to several other alcoholic beverages available around the Mediterranean and the Middle East, e.g. pastis, ouzo, sambuca, arak, Aragh Sagi and aguardiente.
Raki is typically served with meze, more typically with Albanian Qofte, traditional Albanian Fete Cheese, and olives, all produced in Albania.
