Ship's Manifest, Steamship Philadelphia, 1908:
This copy of the manifest -- a list of passengers -- from the steamship Philadelphia contains the names of Bob Hope, his mother, and five of his brothers. Though Leslie (Bob) Hope is listed as being 2 years old, he was actually 4 when the family traveled to America. His age was likely switched with that of one of his brothers when the manifest was created in England. As you can see Avis Hope was 31 when the family immigrated. Her sons were 16, 14, 9, 4, 2, and 1. |
