Afghanistan Memorial Vigil:
The Embassy of Canada was honoured to host Canada's Afghanistan Memorial Vigil over the 2014 Memorial Day weekend. The Afghanistan Memorial consists of the original commemorative plaques from the Canadian monument at Kandahar Airfield. The series of plaques is dedicated to the 161 Canadians and 43 known US Armed Forces members who paid the ultimate price in the service of peace and security while under Canadian command.
The vigil was attended by family members and colleagues of the fallen, as well as US, Afghan and Canadian military and civilian dignitaries. Along with a memorial service a moment of silence was observed acknowledging the bravery, valour and professionalism of all members of the US Armed Forces and those who have served and supported the mission in Afghanistan. |
