Julia "Dudie" Baird, featured here, was an actress and artist's model in New York City during the Gilded Age. She also posed for the renowned sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens for his thirteen-foot-tall statue of Diana, the Roman goddess of the hunt. From 1893 to 1925, that statue topped the original Madison Square Garden, designed by Dewing's friend Stanford White.
