Mourning ring, ca 1804
Worn by Hamilton's widow, Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton. A lock of Alexander's hair rests under the glass, while inside the band an inscription reads, "Alexander Hamilton / Ob: July 12th, 1804 / Ae: 46 yrs. 6 mos." The small gold loop around the band allowed the ring to be worn as a pendant. |
