John H. Patterson's Medal of Honor:
First Lieutenant John H. Patterson of the 11th United States Infantry earned this Medal of Honor for his efforts to rescue a wounded fellow officer about to be consumed by flames near Saunders Field. His citation reads:
Under the heavy dire of the advancing enemy, picked up and carried seven hundred yards to a place of safety a wounded officer of his regiment who was helpless and would otherwise have been burned in the forest.
