Through a unique partnership, the US General Service Administration (GSA) and the National Museum of Civil War Medicine (NMCWM) ensure that the legacy of Clara Barton's Missing Soldiers Office is preserved to educate and inspire.
Recognizing the significance of their discovery, GSA retained a preservation easement when it sold the property, making the owner responsible for essential improvements to support museum use, and has restored the historic interior so that museum visitors experience the spaces much as Clara Barton knew them.
Douglas Development purchased the building in 2007 and supports its ongoing maintenance and operation. Through this precedent-setting collaboration, GSA, the NMCWM and Douglas Development proudly share the story of Clara Barton's Missing Soldiers Office with the world.
