This building is dedicated to the memory of Joseph Gurney Cannon with profound admiration, affection and esteem. His effective leadership and guidance of legislation, his genius for common sense and devotion to principle marked him as a legislative statesman. During his forty-six years of service, his loyalty to the House as an institution was an inspiration to his colleagues.
A true and genuine American, "Uncle Joe" served all the people of the United States with honor and courage. |
