Existing comment: 3. The Broadmoor

The Broadmoor epitomizes the luxury apartment/hotels built along Connecticut Avenue in the 1920s. Designed in 1927 by prominent architect Joseph H. Abel, the Broadmoor featured a pioneering underground garage, restaurant and bar, beauty salon, pastry shop, newsstand, and valet. Among notable residents were business founder Sidney Hechinger and family, Rep. and Mrs. Richard Nixon, George Meany, Archduke Otto of Hapsburg, and Richard Todd Lincoln Beckwith, the last living descendant of President Lincoln.
