Since 1933, the reduge has acquired additional lands under the authority of the Endangered Species Act, the North American Wetlands Conservation Act, and other legislation. Due to the additional lands and additional responsibilities, Blackwater's purpose today is to protect and manage habitat for migratory birds, threatened and endangered plants and animals, and other native species, as well as provide appropriate and compatible wildlife-dependent recreation. |
