Because there are no interior photographs or detailed observations regarding the interior from Lincoln's time, the basic philosophy guiding the restoration was to take the known elements, such as room layout and paint colors, and supplement this with period appropriate elements. Subtle placements of period appropriate floor coverings such as the stair runner, the coco matting in the Drawing room and the hand-painted floor cloth in the entry hall were installed to help "tell the story" of Lincoln's time here. |
