Cat Walk
Wall Street takes its name from the stone wall below, built to retain Battery Park Hill. The alley between the wall and buildings was used for deliveries. Until the mid-1920s, when Wall Street was paved and a sidewalk laid to span the alley, access to these second story doorways was by footbridge or cat walk. |
