Nonnie Lyketsos, 46, Stained Glass Artist
Reistertown, MD

"Since the early 1990s, when I took my first stained glass course, I have been enthralled with the interplay between light and glass," says Nonnie Lyketsos. With 10 years of teaching elementary and middle school English and art to her credit, Lyketsos now teaches the art of stained glass to beginners and experienced artists alike at Carroll Community College in Westminster, Maryland. She also runs her own workshop, Radiant Glass Studio, where she creates windows, panels, and three-dimensional pieces that vary widely in style but share the glowing beauty of light transformed.

Lyketsos, who is a published writer on stained glass and other topics, heard about Red Bull Art of Can from a posting at a Baltimore art co-op. She states, "My inspiration was the bull on the front of the can…I wanted to retain the feel of the forward motion, as well as the power." Her "Red Bull Panel in Glass" incorporates etched and painted glass, etched mirror, two actual cans, and antique glass from Germany that provided just the yellow-gold shade she was looking for. The mother of two teenagers, Lyketsos says that her favorite part of creating the work was "showing it to people when it was finished, especially my kids and their friends."
