Jenn Sherr, 36, Art Teacher/Artist
Boston, MA

Jenn Sherr, 36, specializes creating wearable collage art – some of it sentimental, some ironic (e.g., a bracelet made of paper that has the face of an expensive watch), and all of it eye-catching. Sherr's work was selected by Boston's mayor for public display and has been featured in more than 20 periodicals. To share her passion, which also includes creating furniture, the artist teaches collage techniques at several schools, and she launched her own company, Jenn Sherr Designs. "I'm up at 5am most days, working and thinking of new ideas," Sherr says. "It is with great persistence and a humble heart that I want to be successful and also make people smile when they see my work."

Sherr has participated in numerous juried shows, and in 2007 she crafted a pair of boots that made her a Red Bull Art of Can finalist. This year, she's produced a weekender-style travel bag. "It's all handmade," Sherr explains. "This piece took a very long time, with over four layers of cans and paper." What motivated the busy artist to devote three months to the project? Of course there's her drive to create, but the potential for prizes played a part, too: Sherr's dream is to go to Art Basel in Switzerland.
