Within a year, the "last adult in the room" had resigned over Trump's sudden decision to pull out of Syria. Mattis had allowed for a two-month transition so whomever replaced him could have a smoother time. Trump couldn't handle the accolades being given to someone else so he forced Mattis out sooner. |
