Existing comment: At age 28, Plenty Coups (1848-1932) was made a chief of the Apsalookee (Crow Tribe). During the Indian Wars, he urged the Crow to ally with the United States government and later represented Native Americans at the burial of the Unknown Soldier on November 11, 1921. During the ceremony, Chief Plenty Coups removed this War Bonnet from his head and placed it on the tomb along with his coup sticks in tribute to the Unknown Soldier. Upon his death in 1932, the Crow designated him as their traditional chief.
