Bayonet:
Members of the 3d US Infantry Regiment have fixed bayonets in all official functions. This practice which commemorates a successful bayonet charge at the battle of Cerro Gordo in the Mexican-American War -- is unique to the "Old Guard."
No Rank Insignia:
At to not outrank the Unknowns, the Sentinel does not wear rank insignia. However, Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs) who serve as relief commanders do display their rank, as do Old Guard NCOs during ceremonial functions. |
