While flying a mission over South Vietnam, ground fire brought down Blassie's aircraft. Although the military recovered his remains, his identity could not be completely verified with then existing technology. Originally entombed as the Vietnam War Unknown, he is now buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri. |
