Completion of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier:
A competition was held to come up with the design of the Sarcophagus that rests atop the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The design by Lorimer Rich and Thomas Hudson Jones was selected from 74 submissions. The Sarcophagus is made of Yule Marble that was quarried near Marble, Colorado, and transported to the Vermont Marble Company for fabrication. |
