Funeral Procession Through France:
After his selection, the Unknown Soldier was carried to a nearby railroad station. The casket was placed on a special funeral train to Paris. After spending the night there under guard by US soldiers, the funeral procession continued to Le Havre. With much ceremony they placed the Unknown aboard the USS Olympia for his journey back home to the United States. |
