Costume, 2013
Actors Billy Porter and Eric LaJuan Summers wore parts of this costume as Lola, a drag performer turned footwear consultant, in the original Broadway production of Kinky Boots. Gregg Barnes designed the costumes for the musical, which premiered in 2013. Kinky Boots tells the story of a failing British boot company that reverses its fortunes by manufacturing specialty shoes for drag shows. "Look to the heel, young man," Lola advises. "The sex is in the heel."
With music by Cyndi Lauper and book by Harvey Fierstein, the show celebrates diversity, self-expression, and tolerance. |
