Existing comment: Architect Eero Saarinen looking at the interior of a large model of the Dulles International Airport circa 1960.
Photographed by Bernice Clark, the Dulles International Airport model, like many of Saarinen's other project models, was quite large. This practice of large-scale model making was thought to be very important for clients who had difficulty visualizing form and space. Due, in part, to the organic nature of his architectural designs, the importance of modelling his buildings became paramount both to experiment and to demonstrate viability to clients.
