Existing comment: The architect's model, as first designed, of the Smithsonian Institution Building, North Front.
Known affectionately as the "Castle," this ornate building, constructed of Seneca red sandstone, was designed by architect James Renwick, Jr., in the Gothic Revival style with Romanesque motifs. The building is home to the Smithsonian Visitor Center, as well as administrative offices for the Smithsonian art large.
