Existing comment: Updating Posada

Created for the 100th anniversary of printmaker José Guadalupe Posada's death, Art Hazelwood's print places a Posada calavera (skeleton) on a phone screen with the words Gaceta Callejera (Street Gazette). Below, a money-chasing landlord is tethered to the Grim Reaper. This screenprint is part of a series responding to gentrification and evictions in San Francisco tied to booming tech industries. In the spirit of Posada, Hazelwood and fellow artist Patrick Piazza printed their broadside-style artworks on the street and handed them out for free.
