Skin Color
Some people -- of all skin tones -- will pay to have lighter, brighter, and whiter skin, to be "beautiful" and "more attractive," a sad legacy from hundreds of years of global racial oppression. Some skin-bleachers are dangerous. Many nations regulate or even ban skin lighteners because of their toxic ingredients. But smugglers from countries with fewer limits contribute to a booming underground market.

"Colorism" -- or skin color prejudice -- also lingers among African Americans. Find out more in the "Style: Image and Identify" section of this gallery.
