Existing comment: Cum Nimis Absurdum
Cum Nimis Absurdum ("As it is utterly absurd") was a papal bull issued on July 15, 1555 by Pope Paul IV which dramatically curtailed the freedoms of Jews living in the Papal States. It confined them to unskilled professions and pawn-broking, revoked their rights to own real property, and forced them to live in neighborhoods segregated from their Christian neighbors. Other provisions included a requirement to wear distinguishing clothing, to use deferential greetings when interacting with Christians a prohibition on employing Chistians as household staff.
