The Power of the Printing Press:
During the Revolutionary War, the primary means of communication was the printed word, and with Continental Congress in York, need for a printing press grew urgent. In 1777, the Philadelphia firm of Hall & Sellers moved their press, once owned by Benjamin Franklin, to York, the capital. Printed here were continental currency, the Proclamation of the First Thanksgiving, the Journals of Congress, the Pennsylvania Gazette, and other congressional documents.
