Trinitite sample. When the world's first atomic bomb was detonate on July 16, 1945 at the Trinity Site in Alamogordo, New Mexico, it created a 2,400-foot-wide crater. The crater was glaze with a glasslike substance where the sand had melted and re-solidified. This substance is called "Trinitite".
