Bridge/Pilot House:
The bridge is where the captain spends the majority of his time. When the captain is not on the bridge, the Office of the Deck (OOD) is responsible for the control of the vessel. He decided the course and speed and makes the order for the helm and the lee helm.
The navigation officer spends most of his time on the bridge keeping track of the ship's progress and providing the ODD with a course to follow. He uses a sextant to track the sun, moon & stars, as well as electronic equipment (LORAN-C, OMEGA) to plot the course and mark it on the charts.
The quartermaster writes every major incident down in the ship's log book as well as updates the status board for the ODD and checks the ship's position when the navigator is not on the bridge.
