ASROC Launcher
Anti-Submarine Rockets (ASROC) are a destroyer's primary ASW weapon. Each ASROC RTT (Rocket-Thrown Torpedo) consists of a homing torpedo attached to a rocket motor. The launcher holds a maximum of eight RTT's, one in each cell.
Orders from the shipboard Underwater Battery Fire Control System (UWBFCS) controls launcher train and elevation, homing torpedo search settings, and time before separation of the torpedo from the rocket.
After firing, the torpedo remains attached to the rocket until separation time, then begins free flight. At the end of free flight, the torpedo parachutes into the ocean and begins a programmed search.
