The Washington National Monument Society wanted stones to be four feet in length, but many donors disregarded this request. Philadelphia's eight-foot stone is the largest in the monument.

Washington, DC

The City of Washington, DC, donated this stone in 1850. The cement contains soil from Krakow, Poland, in honor of Polish-born Revolutionary War leader General Thaddeus Kosciuszko.
