The Washington National Monument Society wanted stones to be four feet in length, but many donors disregarded this request. Philadelphia's eight-foot stone is the largest in the monument.

The City of Washington, DC, donated this stone in 1850. The cement contains soil from Krakow, Poland, in honor of Polish-born Revolutionary War leader General Thaddeus Kosciuszko. |
