East Terrace:
When Henry Francis du Pont expanded the house in the late 1920s, he resolved to preserve as many of the site's fine old tulip-poplar and American beeches as possible. Working with Marion Coffin, he created a formal garden, complete with stone balustrades and an elegant summerhouse. Today, the East Terrace provides a transition between the museum and the surrounding naturalistic garden.
