Sundial Garden:
Fragrant plants in shades of pink, white and lavender form concentric circles around a central antique armillary sundial within this garden "room." Designed as an April garden by landscape architect Marian Coffin, flowering begins at the west end with magnolias and cherries. The color sweeps through the central plantings of spirea, viburnum, quince and fothergilla, culminating at the end of the month with a display of lilacs. This charming area originally was the site of the du Pont family's croquet lawn and tennis courts. |
