The boy standing in the White House lawn in this 1865 photograph (right) is Tad Lincoln, son of President Abraham Lincoln (1861-65). Tad (below) loved to play war games and watch the Union soldier protecting his house during the Civil War. Once he even interrupted his father's meeting by bombarding the door with a toy cannon. |
