Living in the White House
Despite their unique surroundings, first families often try to preserve some degrees of normal family life.
Like many families, they celebrate birthdays, get together for the holidays, and gather for religious worship. Like any other home, the White House has witnessed joyous celebrations and unexpected sorrows. First families have hosted elaborate weddings in the East Room and outdoor parties in the Rose Garden. They have also mourned the passing of loved ones in the State Floor reception rooms. |
