President Ulysses S. Grant (1869-77) received this gold, agate and quartz ring as a souvenir of the completion of the transcontinental railroad in 1869. The ring was made from surplus metal in the casting of the golden spike that was ceremonially driven at Promontory Summit, Utah Territory on May 10, 1869. |
