The West Wing:
Originally built in 1902, the West Wing was expanded significantly under President Franklin D. Roosevelt (1933-45). In 1934, he added a second story and enlarged the basement to provide desperately needed offices for his growing staff. The 1934 renovations also moved the Oval Office to its present location next to the Rose Garden.
