The Real ID Act allows the government to waive certain environmental restrictions and other regulations with the goal of building border barriers.
2006
The Secure Fence Act authorizes 850 miles of new fencing, leading to the hardened barrier we have today. Federal funding for the border wall skyrockets over the next few years, with 1.2 billion dollars appropriated for wall construction in fiscal year 2007 alone.
Barrier Type: Wall segments are built with steel set into concrete, by private contractors.
